GlengarryHats.com Copyright Notice

All images appearing on the GlengarryHats.com website are the copyrighted artwork of Ian Parenteau.  These images, including derivative works, are NOT public domain and may not be used by anyone for any reason without prior written permission of the copyright holder, Ian Parenteau. Anyone found displaying Ian Parenteau's copyrighted artwork for commercial gain without Ian Parenteau's authorization will be added to the list of image thieves below without notice.

Image Theft

I wanted customers to be able to view my personally photographed and copyrighted product images without being encumbered by visually displeasing copyright notices.  Sadly, as a result of the wholesale theft and commercial use of my copyrighted artwork by competitors in the UK, USA, Pakistan and elsewhere, I unfortunately have been given no choice but to start a program of updating all of my website photographs to include copyright notices on all images.

I have invested a LOT of time and effort crafting each of the images shown on my GlengarryHats.com website, and I will no longer stand idly by as unethical vendors violate my copyright by using my personal artwork for their own commercial gain. The unauthorized use of my copyrighted images speaks volumes about their ethical integrity.

My advice to the general buying public is to be highly suspect of internet vendors who proudly display, through their use of stolen images, that theft is part of their standard business practices.

Copyright Infringement Evidence

Photograph
Description
Copyright Holder's Original Photograph

This is a typical original photograph I take for a GlengarryHats.com product image. This doublet is made to my specifications and is the same product I sell on my website.

Ian Parenteau, the photographer and copyright holder, is also the model in this image, although many of my doublets were photographed using a mannequin.  The vinyl siding is an easy identifier of my original images.

The folds in the material, shadows, and lighting as the sun shines through the trees onto my back deck make my images undeniably unique.

I have original higher resolution copyrighted unedited photographs like this for every image shown on my GlengarryHats.com website.

Copyright Holders Photograph with Background cropped away

This is my original copyrighted image after it has been edited by me for web display on my GlengarryHats.com website. I like the nice clean look of the image when the background is cropped away. The model (myself) and house siding are visual distractions to my original product display.

It is plainly obvious these photographs are from the identical source, which is Ian Parenteau's original copyrighted photograph shown above.

I was surprised when a customer notified me an Australian vendor of masonic supplies was using doublet and hat images stolen from my website, particularly as they promote themselves as being "owned and operated by a Fellow Masonic Brother". I suppose through their use of my personal images stolen directly from my website, this Australian who calls himself "Lord" is upholding the Masonic principle of thievery? Here is a suggestion:
1) Get a camera
2) Take your own damn photographs!

This vendor has gone way over the top by stealing from me multiple copyrighted images for each doublet I sell at GlengarryHats.com, plus my entire catalogue of hat products.  All my hard work developing my website catalogue photography stolen by these scum and presented on their website as their own.  There doesn't appear to be a single original image on their website, so buyers must assume they are not capable of producing any products at all.

This vendor's entire website appears to be made up of images taken from myself and other legitimate highland product vendors.  When contacted and provided evidence they are using property that was stolen from me for their own commercial gain, the owner gave me the finger, a lame excuse that his friend gave him permission to use all my personally photographed and copyrighted images, and a ridiculous threat of legal action because his use of images stolen from my website discredits his reputation

It was interesting to see that my copyrighted image of the civilian Irish Caubeen style hat I sell somehow came to be used as the very definition of an Irish Caubeen hat on Wikipedia.  My copyrighted image was uploaded to Wikipedia without my knowledge and the image tagged with the false claim my image was copyright free and is in the public domain.

I would have been happy to grant permission to Wikipedia if only I had been asked, but no request was ever made.

On March 4, 2009 I joined Wikipedia and made a short entry on the Caubeen image page disputing the photograph is not copyrighted. Someone from Wikipedia very kindly and quickly removed the image from their website.
